What is Reiki?
Reiki holistic energy healing therapy used in the west the since 1938 and in Japan since 1920. It is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki means universal life energy. The word consists of two parts. The syllable Rei the universal boundless aspects of this energy, while Ki in itself is a part of of Rei being the vital life force energy which flows through all living being. Many cultures and religions have always been aware of the existence of an energy which corresponds to the meaning of Ki. Thus Ki is named: Chi by the Chinese, Light or Holy Ghost by the Christians, Prana by the Hindus, Sekhem by the ancient Egyptians, and Bioplasmic Energy by the Russian researchers. All are one and the same basic energy, although the extent to which they are applied and the theories concerning them differ greatly.
The Usui system of Reiki is a simple and natural healing method and an effective way of transferring this universal life energy. Once a person has been opened to become a channel for Reiki concentrated life energy flows through his hands of its own accord and he will retain this ability for the rest of his life.
What is this universal energy? The latest development in quantum physics come very close to describing this idea. Super gravitation theory describes the existence of a standardized, perfectly balanced field standing in relationship to only itself, a field of pure intelligence which brings forth all matter to form the basis of all creation. This coincides exactly with the statements which wise and enlightened men have been making throughout the centuries. There is a state of being which contains all creations and out of which all life arose. The energy of this state of being moves in all things and it is this universal energy which flows through our hands in concentrated form when we treat someone with Reiki.

A Reiki session is typically quiet, gentle, and non-invasive. You remain fully clothed, removing only shoes or bulky items if desired. You lie on a massage table with a blanket or pillow provided for comfort. The practitioner places their hands gently on or just above different areas of your body. There is no massage or manipulation of muscles. Many people report feeling warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, or simply calm. Others notice little or no physical sensation.
